Shawn's Snow Day

Here are a few pics from Shawn's snow day last week.

Here's a shot while playing with shutter speed and Christmas lights. This also happens to be the best representation available of what occurs in my brain when I attempt to concentrate.

Potato Padiddle

I don't think Shawn would claim to be a linguistics pro or anything. He's into dissecting science stuff not words. But the other day he provided me with some quotes that are absolute gems.

First, we were driving in the car and listening to Jack Johnson. Then my ears caught the following coming out of Shawn's mouth. "Driving my potato with a burnt out fuse." He was singing along with full gusto when that sentence came out without a second thought from Shawn. For anyone not familiar with the song Mudfootball by Jack, the lyric is "driving a padiddle with a burnt-out fuse". A padiddle is a car with one headlight out. Anyway, it wasn't so much the lyric mishap (I myself have a serious issue with replacing all known words with doo-doo's), as the logic that was required to make Shawn's version acceptable in his own head. Did he picture a potato with some faulty wiring driving down the road? Did the potato have wheels or Flinstone-esque legs? Was it a Russet, Yukon Gold, red-skinned or Fingerling?

When we returned home we began discussing the awesome dinner we had in the North End. Shawn said "Wow. That meal at Guacomo's was great." No, we didn't eat at some mysterious Mexican restaurant. We ate at Giacomo's. If I had to bet, I'd say that the closest reference word he had was guacamole, hence Guacomo's.

Thank you Shawn. I really enjoyed these moments. Please keep them coming.

Christmas Race

Here is a little photo documentary on our annual Christmas competition: the race for the pickle ornament! It is a fierce and fast competition. What's at stake? A bonus prize and glory.

This was Shawn's first year as a competitor. He played well and demonstrated great effort. However, his weaknesses are sill evident. Here you can see that I nudged him out using tush defense.
High or low? Which way to go?

Since we switched to a fake tree, the competition difficulty and duration has greatly increased. The judges like to bend the branches and completely camouflage the pickle.

Complete possession must be demonstrated before a winner is declared. Here you can see my clean exit from the tree area and use of two hands for maximum stability.
Victory is mine!

Fort Revere

Shawn and I went to Fort Revere Park in Hull to test out the new camera. Here are a few shots from the day.
